And almost ready to head off to the Scottish lowland - well, pit stopping in Copenhagen to have fun with friend :D

I've got this and that to do during the vacation, a little fic, some photos that need dealt with (I take FAR too many when out and I've still got a ton of photos from Vienna Zoo that need seen to).

So here's to you all having a good time and I'll keep you up to date with what weirdo stuff I might get up to over xmas.

And I can't be the only one looking forward to the Assassin's Creed movie, ammarite?

I'm back *eg*

I'm actually going to try to post here more often. Why? Because, like someone on tumblr said, we sort of miss the LJ/DW format.

So I'm going to keep throwing shit into the blog again *g*

What you might ask? Well, tonight it'll be a bit of real life stuff.

Maybe tomorrow night it will be fannishly related. I've finally managed to edit the Warehouse 13 fic and have handed it over to butterynutjob to get their judgement. After 51-52K words, I have no real feel for if the story works or not. The brain has turned to mush at this point.

I have, however, a bunch of ideas/prompts etc in my GDocs and I'll probably unload them over here as a wip platform.

We'll see if I can keep that one going this year. I've tried for ages to get back to this blogging format but my brain often refuses to agree on getting anything done.

So, aye, that's what I'm aiming for. So a little fannish, maybe, tonight. I've been making boxes for the gifts I'm giving that are too small for my taste (one is a gift certificate, the other is a refurbished smart phone). So one box is now pitch black with team mystic's logo on it while the other one looks like one of the journals/books from Gravity Falls.

Speaking of Team Mystic - my own team as well - I've been enjoying Pokemon Go and still am. Caught a pikachu with a xmas hat today *g* - I wonder if they keep the hat when you evolve them?
ximeria: (Default)
I seem to find other things to do when I should be editing *laughs*

Ah well - can't have it all, can we?

*does a little work on a Gravity Falls box for a xmas present*

*tidies the living room a little*

*makes a cup of coffee*

*eyes Warehouse 13/x-men fusion fic that should be edited*

*makes another cup of coffee and checks drying point of box*

So, how is everyone? Still here?

*ponders some writing exercises*

Edit what fic, you said?

Still going at it, but as my vacation week draws nearer, I watch the wordcount with worry. I'm out of the country for a week - and I'm not expecting to get anything done writing wise that week.

The good news is I'm chipping away ever so slowly and I'm a good deal ahead, at the moment at least. I've as of tonight, passed the 30K mark *cheers self on*

The title of tonight's post is linked to the fact that I'm not sure there's enough meat on this for 50K - mind you, I've just let the villain get away, so it's not like I can't keep writing *g* - and considering it's a fusion with the Warehouse 13 universe, which is a series, I guess I can just keep going until I hit the magical 50+K.

It's been surprisingly easy to fuse the x-men characters and world into the idea of a Warehouse that deals with artifacts - and using mutants for it actually proved quite logical. That at least is something, so I don't have to worry about my ideas and good intentions falling apart halfway through (although famous last words, there's still 20K to go - it could go wrong yet).

*\O/*
*cheers everyone else on*

Consider this your cheering squad. Here's to hoping you're getting words written. Doesn't matter if it's 5, 500 or 5000 - I know the magical number of the 50K NaNo goal, but even if you don't get there, you should aim for it. Aim for it, if you land short, overshoot or hit bullseye, one way or another, you've put words into sentences. It's exercising the brain and the writing muscles.

Beat those words and sentences into submission.

*goes back to torturing Erik*

Anyone else doing the nano? Yes? No? If so, how is it coming along for you guys?

*bounces*

I may have had a little too much coffee today. And I think I just broke Alex. I'm going to have to make up for that but having passed 8K words I think I still have time for that.

Summary:

The year is 1864. While unrest brews in Europe, Charles Xavier is finally able to start his research after spending years trying to find funding. Riding the tailcoats of Charles Darwin, he sets out into the British countryside to find out how much truth there is in folklore, how much of it that can be explained by his own kind, gifted humans with special abilities.

Little does he expect to find new friends, new challenges, a budding attraction both emotionally and physically. Not to mention an enemy with far more nefarious and sinister plans than he could have ever imagined.

Erik Lehnsherr is set with a good business, a manor and grounds, staff and acquaintances he can lean on if needed. However, having tracked down and killed the man who killed his parents, he feels adrift, wondering if this is where he's supposed to end his life; a respectable man with a respectable business.

Dragging a drowning Englishman out of the river starts him down an entirely unforeseen, but not necessarily, unwelcome path.

I’ve occasionally mentioned Nicci’s and mine two-person challenge. We sit down every two weeks (via skype) and gossip for a few hours. We also, however, roll a dice and the dice dictates what we’re doing the coming two weeks.

Sometimes it’s computer maintenance, sometimes it’s photos (editing, scanning old photo albums etc) and sometimes it’s being creative (writing or crafting) and sometimes it’s website maintenance.

The latter is what I rolled two weeks ago.

Now, I hadn’t updated my website regularly since 2012... Ahem, so I had a bit of a backlog. I also wanted to make the site dynamic and mobile friendly. Now, you might ask, why bother, we have AO3, which most of you know I have an account on with 300+ fics (*groans* that makes me feel so old!). Now, young padawan, I know you younglings don’t necessarily understand this, as you get your archives and social media sites served on a platter. I am not only out of a time where it wasn’t out of the ordinary to have you own website, it was actually pretty common.

Also, I’m a ginourmous dork and enjoy designing and last, but not least, fiddling with the code. So I did a couple of HTML5 and CSS courses to brush up on it (via coursera) and JavaScript and Dynamic website programming (also via coursera). And I finished the latter just two weeks ago. Right in time for rolling website maintenance. So I’ve spent the past two weeks faffing about with code and recoding old pages and coding new ones. And I hadn’t expected to get it done in time for rolling a new challenge yesterday, but mid-afternoon Sunday, I put in the last coded page and it does work, it has all my fic and the few fanvids I’ve done.

Does that mean I can feel accomplished? Damn sure I can! Now to go look for some elephants for my arts and crafts project the next two weeks. I never knew how hard it would be to find four damned elephants that would fit on top of the box I’m using.

So if any of you peeps know where I might be able to find elephants of 3-4 inches in height, do let me know.

And one of them's my coworker, so we're not talking mad axe murderers.

I've got two pals who are going to spend 3 months (april/may/june) in New York. They've been on contact with a company that was supposed to help them find accommodations, but the past month, my pal's had problems getting an answer back from them. Now, I thought I'd yell into the void that is the internet and ask if anyone knows of the best way to find somewhere to stay in NY or know of someone who might even have a place to stay for two perfectly well behaved Danes. The area they were looking at was somewhere between 70th and 100th (Upper West) because they're both familiar with that area (been there before for a shorter stay). So, any suggestions?
ximeria: (Default)
So, the previous week's challenge was a bit up and down for me. I was supposed to deal with the website (or at least figure out the pros and cons for what I could do and what I couldn't). Well, I had a whole list that I worked down to very little. I had ideas of dropping my fic into a database and only having so many pages on my website, but I've gotten to the point where I can tell that that probably won't be doable. I lack the coding knowledge for that - so instead I decided to take my time and teach myself a bit of PHP - went through the whole set on codecademy. It was fun, but didn't really solve anything for me LOL

The layout of the website will be tweaked at some point when I'm done with the coursera course on Dynamic webpages (it hasn't even started yet), so the ideas as hanging in the air until them.

Now, last weekend Nicci and I rolled the dice again and this time I had to deal with photos. Or in this case, scans of photos - I have a ton of pictures that used to be my parents' and I've been threatening to get them scanned and fixed (some of them need more love than others). First half of the week: Nothing done *laughs*. It's week one of term start at work - I have barely managed to eat dinner when coming home from work.

However, I made a hell of a dent yesterday, so I'm back on track - and getting quite a bit done tonight as well, so I'm confident that I'm actually Getting Shit Done this time around ;)
ximeria: (Default)
So this week I rolled a 2 and get to do website related stuff. Challenge to myself?

Planning and seeing if I can figure out how to make my fic into a database and avoid hardcoding too much of the website when I get started on re-arranging/re-coding it (which will happen at some point after I've gone through a course on responsive website programming. I have ideas and I'm spending the next 2 weeks on figuring out if I'm smart enough to pull it through without killing myself (or someone else) from sheer frustration.

[personal profile] nicci_mac rolled a 6 (wildcard/free choice) and has decided to do stuff around the house that has been put off forever. And in some cases it does seem to have been close to forever ;) (I've got similar projects lined up in case I hit a 6).
ximeria: (Default)
Well, I had two weeks to do something fannishly creative and I did manage. I'm not sure it's good enough to share LOL - but I did work out a prequel for the Warehouse13 fusion, so I'm happy. I might keep working with it and eventually add it to the story from 2014. However, I did manage to plan out at least two actual parts to the series on top of that and that will be my writing project through spring; getting those two written.

So all in all, the first GSD project has yielded more than I expected. I'd hoped to have an actual fic to show for it, but I'm not happy with the flow of it (and quite frankly, it's a bit boring and not enough on its own). So yes, I'll keep working on it - it's 3 pages long so to me that's all it is, a prequel that I'll probably put into the series when I do the actual sequel to The Weird and Wonderful. To think I initially intended it as a single entry into the AU challenge in 2014, I now have not one, but two sequels planned (and the prequel helped me put a lot of my ideas into the planning process).

So we'll see what the dice say tomorrow - what the next two week will be challenge wise *g*

Now I'm going to gut some cabinets and get some rubbish sorted.
ximeria: (Default)
Aye, it's going forward, I swear!

*laughs*

Well, I've got it planned out so that I know what I can get done in the week that's left. Originally I had two parts up at AO3 that were part of the warehouse 13 fusion, but I've disconnected the 2nd part as it won't fit in (so it will just have to be an alternate timeline to my AU *g*).

I should be able to get a prequel done that covers how Erik is dragged into the whole madness of the Warehouse. I think trying to get more than that done might be overdoing it ;) (I've got my last week of JavaScript course this week as well, so yeah).

It does not mean there won't be more *stares at 5 pages worth of brain storming*

I've got at least one part that will be a case in style with the show, probably and making use of the full team, hopefully, with some foreshadowing (this will all be pre-relationship). Then there's a part that will be more relationship focused (though still deal with the weirdness of the warehouse itself) - as well as delve deeper into what the warehouse IS. That part is roughly 2/3 of the brain storm! *sighs deeply* I can't seem to do simple anymore...
ximeria: (Default)
*yawns and looks around*

*dusts off dashboard*

So, yeah. Erm. *clears throat*

Maybe I should be doing something around here, this year. Nicci and I have made a bit of a challenge for ourselves - apart from the project 365 photoproject. Every two weeks we roll a dice and have a list of things the numbers relate to.

Bi-weekly Challenges

Roll a dice - make a list of what is to be done (plus maybe stuff that we'd like to get done) - share list

1 computer maintenance
2 website work (updating/redesigning/recoding etc)
3 fandom work (creating, fic, manips, covers for stories etc)
4 flickr/fb (photograph album sorting) uploading
5 scanning/photoshop (prep of images) (old photo albums)
6 wildcard/free choice

This week I've been challenged by the number 3 - and I think I'll be starting on my Warehouse 13 AU for Xmen. Whether I'll be finishing it is anyone's guess, but I've got ideas for a longer story by now than the first musings that I did for my fic-a-week project back in 2014.

I'll try to keep updating here so I can hold myself to our challenges. And we'll see how much I can get done within the next two weeks. And what the challenge will be after that. It's basically just a "Get Shit Done" challenge.
ximeria: (Default)
Well, the pollen is still annoying, but I try to power through it. I've started a new course on Coursera - programming in Scratch (which is quite fun) - at least first week has been.

Secondary, I'm considering trying to find someone who'll poke me. As in, gently getting me to work on the WWII AU - Maybe someone who can read through it as I manage to write. It doesn't help that I had about 32K words and my brain decided to change the plot and I had to cut the story back to appx 10K where the story wanted to deviate *laughs*

Yeah, I never said it was EASY, did I?

Maybe I'm looking for a cheerleader? I think we used to do that when I was in the SG1 fandom *feels nostalgic*

Though currently I just need someone to push me off this ledge to get me out of my misery *sighs and rubs scratchy eyes* [personal profile] lysanatt mentioned Iceland. It's looking tempting.
ximeria: (Default)
*glares balefully at the world in general*

Don't any of you peeps say "aw, look, spring's coming". Because I can promise you, I will maim you.

Take your fecking spring and the bloody pollen it brings with it and shove it where the sun don't shine.

*grumbles*

I just want a day of not trying to rip my eyes out, rubbing my nose raw and knowing that antihistamines have no actual effect. I want to actually feel like I'm alive when I wake up in the morning, instead of scrubbing crud out of my eyes for the next two and a half months.

Gonna move to the fecking North Pole, eventually. And birch season hasn't even started yet...

*sighs* I just want to have the necessary energy and non-itchy eyes so I can get back to the WWII AU I'm working on.

Right, I need a little help from the Manga Affecionados (sp) on my flist.

I have a friend who is looking for a gift for her daughter (coming of age thing 14 years old etc). She’s wildly into manga and has a ton of books on how to draw it.

However, what her mum wants to give her is a ‘coffee table book’. Something big and glossy that, to quote her: “makes you want to cut out every picture and hang it on the wall” (not that she would - mum’s a librarian…).

So this is where you peeps come in. What’s the most gorgeous book you know of that showcases manga in the most delicious way?

So...

I decided to get back into this blog-thing and what do I then do? Fall off the face of the earth, is what *laughs*. Strictly speaking, the only falling I've been doing, has been into bed/onto the couch. I've been so damned tired lately that I've mostly just crashed in front of the TV, either watching various tv shows or playing Assassin's Creed.

Now that said, I swear, I'll get back on my feet. Just have to get used to the pollen count steadily rising (which is why I'm so damned tired right now - it takes a week or two for my system to get used to it and allow me to return to normal). That is, until we get MORE of the flamin' stuff.

Title: Stars are only visible in Darkness

Pairing: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier

Summary: Charles allows himself to think he can have his school after the sentinel debacle on the lawn of the White House. How wrong he is. And how wrong he is to think he can truly trust anyone.

Notes: Written for the X-men Reversebang of 2014/15 (Round 3). I was lucky (beyond words) to snag Shigai's artwork and she was happy with the ideas I threw at her (even if at times I had to keep saying "I normally write fluff!")

Please go have a look at her artwork on tumblr (and while there, check out the rest of her artwork - she's so damned gifted!)

I've got a googlesheet of books divided into two tabs - one Danish books - one English books.

Feel free to browse it, if you'd like any, put your email into the line of the book you'd like and I'll send you an email asking for shipping address. Be greedy, take more than one if you feel tempted. I'll pay the shipping - you can always drop a cent or penny or so into my paypal when you get the book(s) if you feel generous - I work in a book store - most of it goes back into getting new books *laughs*.

If one of the usual Danish suspects want some of them, I'll bring them the next time we have a get-together. Calvinahobbes - I've still got the three you put aside last time - they're not on the list - they're already yours.

Most of them are mint condition - some of them read once, some of them never. One or two have a slightly ripped dust jacket, but that's noted in the sheet.
