I'm not sure if I'll ever get through this, but here's the back story.

A while back, in my line of work as a clerk in a book store (university level) I had a book between my hands that was ordered by one of the educational places of Odense.

I'm not judging them here - I'm judging the book itself. At the first look it looked interesting enough. It was a smallish book on fan culture and fanfiction. Of course, when I started reading it with a friend who majors in media science, we were both struck by the fact that 1. the book should have had the subtitle of 'with focus on twatlight Twilight (and a side order of Harry Potter and knitting (don't ask)). And 2. it was sort of rude to the rest of us (to me at least).

I think upon skimming it, there were several things that struck me as wrong as well as plain insulting. Now, it may be that it's aimed at contemporary YOUNG fandom/cultures but we got to talking that maybe, just maybe, it was worth picking it apart. So, if ya'll are interested in it, I'm willing to take it chunk by chunk - and let you have your say. I'm not going to put my own opinion in the closet, but you're welcome to disagree. My opinion WILL be coloured by the fact that I am not and never WILL I be in the Twilight fandom, but there are still essential parts of the book that just hit me as WRONG. Will I tell the publisher? Sure, if our conversations here become interesting enough, I might just do so. It's a publisher that specializes in educational books, so to me, that means, it's perfectly legit to rip one of their books apart -if the book is off, they need to know.

The other half of my personality just likes poking fun at 'normal people'/'outsiders' writing books on topics where I, even after a decade and a bit, still feel like a bit of a noob.

So, would you guys be interested in conversation? Humour, fun, acadmically founded facts - it's all welcome.

Thank you to those of you who fell for the April's fool joke - and thank you to those of you who abused me verbally afterwards XD

So, peeps. It's Sunday. Whatcha all up to?

I'm faviconXimeria at the AO3, and fandoms in the immediate queue include Torchwood, Startrek 2009, Merlin (BBC), there's already Firefly, Due South and Doctor Who up *g*

Oh, and btw? Users can now subscribe to get an email notif when a writer updates or posts a new work - and more's on the way!

To put this information on your own journal, copy and paste the following and take out the capitalized parts and put in your own information

Oh, and I've got an invite for the archive if anyone's been considering getting their stuff up there - it's easy to use (unlike the Pit), easy to search and easy to read off. Not to mention you can download the fic into various file formats to read on the go! What's not to like!?

More or less like this:

"A Friend Is Someone Who Will Bail You out of Jail, but Your Best Friend Is the One Sitting next to you Saying 'That Was Fucking Awesome!' "

Since 2003, I've had the pleasure of knowing just the type of person who fits the description perfectly. She really would be the one sitting next to me, grinning like a loon, because she's impulsive in all the right ways and she indulges my random hops and leaps between fandoms and pairings, and even when she doesn't share them - which happens occasionally, she will still create gifts for me within the context of said fandoms *g* - that's what friends do, indulge your insanity. And because she won't be home tomorrow, I get my birthday present one day early ^_^ (okay, half of it - because she already got me How to Train you Dragon on DVD while I was visiting XD)

This is a perfect end to a hellishly stressful work day *g* - Thanks hon, you rock like a box of rocks ^_^

1. Well, let's get the question over with first. Do I have anyone on my flist who used to be into X-Files? Yeah? Did Krycek ever kiss Mulder on screen? I can not remember! Footage would be appreciated XD

2. My head still feels like it's filled with cotton. Nor can I breathe though the nose.

3. What the hell was I thinking?

And where did I put my LJ icon that said: I need another fandom like I need another hole in my head...?

4. Someone make me nuTrek icons? K/S ones? *smiles widely* please? *schmooches f-list* - it would make my problems regarding no. 2 more bearable?

*hides post from [personal profile] nicci_mac*

And why I be hiding this? Weeeeell, you see, she mentioned at one point, that getting into a new fandom goes a little something like this:

Nicci: You find something, enjoy it, read the fic, lot's of it too, then you start writing it and THEN you drag me into it.

Xim: *tries to look innocent*

*slowly hides WIP folder with new Star Trek XI sub-folder*

I iz so ded
ximeria: (merlin - is impressed)
I felt restless tonight.

Not that i don't have anything to work on, both work website wise and writing, but I felt like putting on a movie.

Dragged out Luc Besson's Taxi - it's French, it's fun, it's pure CRACK LOLz

I'd forgotten how silly it is. And how HoYay XD

I'd also forgotten that I once upon a time actually wrote a Taxi fic *laughs* - because [livejournal.com profile] nora_charles and I were in the UK during her birthday and I gifted her with a short little fluffy story.. I believe it might've been in 2002 - my goodness! That's a long time ago XD

It was of course Daniel/Emilien and a wee bit silly *grins*

What's the smallest/weirdest/no-one's-ever-heard-of-this fandom you guys've ever written in?

Wow... I never knew. Check out the member count at the bottom of the profile page of [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts -- and no, I'm just too tired of reading about the LJ purging to go on about it here. Seems some communities are back online again.

This is the post for you, [livejournal.com profile] amy_star_, so you don't have to enter the maze of my LJ and find the fics. I'm not even sure they're all there O.o

Run by [livejournal.com profile] iamtheenemy and [livejournal.com profile] storydivagirl. My mission was to do at least four pieces of feedback, two were to be longer with constructive crit while the other two could be shorter comments. We could choose to feedback on fic, vids art etc.

My dear victim feedbackee ended up being [livejournal.com profile] thefannishwaldo. I do hope he/she will take the whole she-bang as it's meant. I wanted to be fair with the crit, and I tried hard to make it constructive (with a wee bit o' help...)

feedback for thefannishwaldo )

I feedbacked on the Stargate fics/vids on the site, just so you know before you click on the link. Boy, did I have to drag some rusty memories up XD

A Memory

I seem to be a wee bit behind and so it seems I've only this morning read that [livejournal.com profile] thamiris passed away on April 4th. I can't say I knew her, but I loved her stories back when I was part of the Smallville fandom. I mean, that fandom was one of the three fandoms I got into at the same time when I started out, so there's a handful of writers I will always remember.

Thamiris being one of them. Yeah, I'll definitely remember her. She wrote porn like no one else *g* *reminds self to re-read, because it's just been too damned long*

So, in her memory, I'll sit down, open up Word and write some porn. It's one way for me to light a virtual candle in her memory. May her soul go on forever and perhaps become a muse for others.

[livejournal.com profile] nicci_mac posted a few questions whether we're one-fandom kinda people or really just fandom whores *g*

Slash... I think the first I read was TS - Jim/Blair, then DS Fraser/RayK (I think) it's many many years back. As for really getting into it?
