I realize I rarely post here (I rarely post anywhere but AO3 these days XD) - but I'm actually signal boosting and searching for artists at the moment, as we're closing in on our signups for artists for the Good Omens Big Bang.

We need more artists (signups close on September 30th) but we're open for pinch hitters after that as well! (We also take betas and story coaches).

The main posts are on tumblr, but we make great use of Discord as well, and the server's hoppin' (quite the creative melting pot at the moment and great fun).

Check out the original post on Tumblr and read about it - and if you think maybe you could think of joining either as an artist or pinch hitting in case artists drop out (let's face it, we all know real life can be a bitch at times) - then head on over and have a look.

Photo project of 2018 - Post 4 - April - Churches

And April just whoosed by LOL - I've been fighting with fatigue due to my pollen allergies, so getting anything done has been an uphill battle. With May around the corner, my arch nemesis AKA birch pollen (I'd torch the fuckers if I could get away with it) will be going down fast and I'll be able to reclaim my life *g*

I wasn't sure what topic to put up here this month, then realized that I've actually got a few pictures of churches buried in my albums. Some are taken here in Denmark, some are from other countries.

I'm not a religious person - quite the contrary - I swing between Agnostic and Atheist on most days but I love visiting churches and taking pictures. The light is so different in there and the architecture varies so much. My interest solely lies in the cultural history and the architecture, but I love big hulking buildings as well as quaint little village churches.

This month's post shall be landscapes - because as much as I love sharing images of birds, animals, birds, building and let's not forget, birds (I have a lot of bird pictures, okay?!) I also feel I don't share my love for wide open spaces, mountains, cliffs and rivers - just to mention a few. I always take my camera with me when I go to Scotland (or rather, travel anywhere that isn't close to home) and you can say a lot about Scotland, but the view tends to be pretty stunning *g* - so below you'll find from around Britain, in a lot of cases Scotland, but not limited to this, of course.

Photo project of 2018 - Post 2 - February - animals

So, at the very tail end of February - with a chill factor of -15ish C I figured I'd give you all some fur and feathers. I have a ton of pictures of animals, and I figured why not show you guys some animals goofing off/looking silly?

Last time I went to the local zoo, the tigress was being all silly, rolling in the snow, licking it, and playing peak-a-boo with me *g*. She normally holds back and the big male is the camera whore, but on this day, he was lounging inside, sleeping, while she was acting like a kitten.

Photo Project of 2018 - Post 1 - January - Light

I thought I might as well get this thing off the ground. I decided that the photography project this month would be themed "light" - mostly because it's bloody dark around here, even if the days are slowly getting longer.

Some of the images are from January, some are older - all of them are themed 'light'. Some are taken with my phone - some are taken with my DSLR - truly depends on if I've had it with me at the time - it's not the lightest of rocks to drag around ;)

My intention to post from January is almost deflating, isn't it? *laughs*

Well, since I'm procrastinating on a Saturday night, I figure I might as well get started.

Now, if I don't lose my way *coughs* I'll be using a couple of specific tags in the coming year (though not limited to those, they will be the main ones).

Now, the project of the year is my photography project. I love my old Nikon D5000 and I miss taking it out for regular spins. So I figured, why not set myself something to do. Each month I'll find a topic/subject - nothing set in stone, but I feel January needs to have the topic: light. Mostly because it's dark as a cellar in hell here - I mean, we're on the way towards longer days, but it's still dark by four/fiveish in the afternoon - especially if we have shitty weather - overcast, cold and dank.

I figure I'll do a mixture of pictures I've already taken through the years and pictures taken during January. And come February, who knows, I'll find another topic for that month. Feel free to make requests.

The writing, now that is going to be on and off (probably mostly off during February because work tends to be insane). But I fully intend to use my DW for the WIP I'm trying to plan - a while back I did a Warehouse 13 fusion with X-men which was fun to do, but nearly killed me. So I figured, why not give a Trek-fusion with X-men a go - and the ideas are plentyful XD - I just know that if I don't put it somewhere as I go, I probably won't get it done. And I don't do long WIPs on AO3 - I'll put it up there when it's done, but I need somewhere to pour my writing into. So if you feel like it, you'll get an ongoing story of the first ship in Starfleet history to be captained by a mutant, with a crew predominantly mutants - sent out to do research on the influence of deep space travel on a mutant. Sounds like fun? Well, yeah, unless you throw in some bad guys with horrible agendas, a man on the run and the dark, cold space where no one can hear you scream ;)

As for hobbies - well, I've got a few LOL - apart from the photography and the writing. I want to get back into drawing, I want to do more arts and craft stuff - I have a few projects and figured it might be fun showing them off *g* - I have a lamp shade that I want done up in a ghastly/haunter/gengar themed style, I have boxes that I want to decorate in one way or another.

And you'll all probably be submitted to my love for pokemon, both GO and DS. Hell, I caught my first shiny pokemon in GO today - two, actually - because of the community event day today. Two shiny pikachu with the move 'surf' because that's what Niantic were giving us for this event. Useless, but who cares?! I have shiny CHU!

(it's also half past midnight and I should be in bed - instead of trying to make sense on the interwebs XD)

Fic projects, present and future

No, I'm not doing the nano this year XD

It's not that I don't have a behemoth of an idea, it's just that it's not that far yet. As well as having last year's nano with the beta-reader.

Also, cold season - as in, stuffed nose and low grade headache, so don't expect any miracles for the next couple of months *g*

Actually, that behemoth of an idea, I've decided to work on here, on my DW account. I don't particularly like doing WIPs on AO3, mostly because I don't like the idea of editing backwards in anything I've actually posted there. So this will be my work room, my draft room and I'll leave the entries unlocked so anyone can comment (with great power comes great... yadda yadda).

I doubt I'll find the time before X-mas to get this started, with the current project still going on (although I've planned out the last entries for that). And I've still got a final chapter to do for the "I hate you" story line that I've left on and off for the past couple of months. However, you never know, I do intend to get that stuff off my plate so I can get started on the big one.

So the big project? Yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment. It'll be a Star Trek fusion that will use one of my previous trek fics as a stepping stone. I've had the odd idea on and off for the past year regarding this, but all through summer and autumn it's been dogging my heels and while I seem to have trouble finding the full story idea in the mess in my head, I also know that in many cases the full bloomed idea doesn't come to me until I start working on a story. I'm a writing-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of fic writer, after all, so why not go back to that? And I miss the LJ/DW style of writing that has a more organic feel to it than the archive itself does. The story will of course eventually end up on AO3, but until then, I need a sandbox to play in and I think we can all agree that Tumblr will never serve that purpose for me - it screws with my need for universal order XD

On Monday, because we don't know how to slow down ;) - we went out to Paignton Zoo - and zoo trips ALWAYS mean a ton of pictures to get through afterwards *g*

Under the cut are some of the pictures and at the bottom of the post is the link to the full album on flickr.com - I have to admit, that I managed to cook it all down to 136 pictures in the album, where I came back from the trip with a good 600-700 pictures. It's what always happens - I get carried away ;)

We drove from just outside Tavistock, across Dartmoor to Paignton - along the way hoping to see Dartmoor ponies (wild ponies) and we got more than we'd bargained for - ended up behind a car with one of the ponies trotting along the road, not really able to get off it, but not really giving a toss about there being several cars behind it.

Heading south after stopping for the night in Crewe, we decided to deviate from our course towards Cornwall and Devon. The detour? Stonehenge - because we both have it on the list of places we'd like to actually see for real.

So, Saturday morning we set out and we hit it in the middle of heat of the day - early afternoon. Waiting in line was a killer - sweat dripping and nothing to block off the sun. Well worth it though ;) - We took turns to leave the queue for the tickets to stand in the shade and breeze at the building. Included in the ticket is thankfully a short bus trip up to Stonehenge itself. And oddly enough, because they don't allow people too close, due to the layout, I managed to get pictures without people in it.

On the road again...

I've got to post a fic on Monday (my twice monthly posting) and I've got nothing written so far. Instead I'm in the train on my way to Copenhagen to enjoy the evening with lysanatt and stay the night until I'm heading to Scotland tomorrow. Then Friday, three crazy people leave Scotland to meet up with two equally nuts Welsh. And we get to be a bad influence on each other until Tuesday!

Thankfully we're all from one or more corners of various fandoms, past present and future (don't ask) so I'll get time to work on something for you people, they will encourage me to. The idea started out as royal fantasy, but has now decided to become a space opera.

Re-reading old fanfic (sentinel edition)

I got to re-reading some very old Sentinel fanfic - as in back when it was a very active fandom. My history with the fandom was very short, mostly because I came into it via Stargate SG1. SG1 fandom had annoyed me at this point and I thought the Sentinel fandom would bring enough change. Nope, not really - too many of the same faces XD

Well, re-reading a decade and a half to two decades later, there's always a risk. A risk of the story you recall as being quite good turns out to be less so.

It's partly that the stories that I re-read weren't exactly brilliant, but another reason is the fact that Sentinel wrote a huge chapter of the book on cliches and tropes. I think some of the things that hit me were:

Everyone's straight except for when it comes to THAT one guy (both Jim and Blair are portrayed as 130% straight and struggle to come to terms with being GAY for that one dude - seriously - it's like bisexuality didn't exist in the 90s...)

The amount of purple prose is downright hilarious! (A ton of it is possibly down to it being from a time when ff.net was used a lot... it's definitely a different way of writing fic XD)

Non-con/dub-con - seriously - it's not like I haven't read and written my share of biological fuck or die stories (especially in Star Trek with pon-farr or for that matter, SG1 - aliens made them do it/sex pollen etc) but seriously - having Jim go caveman (another sentinel trope) on Blair's ass (literally), screwing him and afterwards lamenting that he has hurt his partner to only have Blair accept it because it's a guide/sentinel thing... I've never been a huge fan om non-con, or for that matter dub-con and reading 5 out of 6 stories where this is actually the outcome... yeah, not my pot of tea

LUBE, PEOPLE, LUBE. If it's the first time having anal sex, spit isn't going to be enough, and if you choose to go with it anyway, there'll be either tearing or at least VERY much discomfort afterwards.

I know it was a different era for fanfic, but still - I almost regret re-reading the fics, they were better in the shadows of my memories. It's not a complaint about one specific author, because I realized it was a trend in the type of fic that was written during this time and also probably something that the writers liked exploring.

whenever I intend to start using DW again, I hit pollen season and do nothing but go to work, come home and crash on the couch, move to the bedroom, sleep like there's no tomorrow - rinse and repeat XD

I personally can't wait for mid May (not just because I'll be heading to Kendal for an extended weekend with lovely people (three of the four I only see once every year in spring for this getaway)) but it also normally means the end of pollen season for me (those of you who have trouble with grass and other shit, you have my utmost empathy.

Now, back to plotting the x-men trek fusion *eg* and figuring out what on earth I'm writing for the xmen writing project that I set myself - I'm posting for that on April 15th, better get some ideas going!

I feel like shredding my face and my eyes several times through the day. If anyone else says to me: "Isn't it lovely, it's getting warmer and the trees are going green." I. Will. Kill. Them. With. Fire!

This has been brought to you from those of us who are allergic to the fuckers. Don't ask us how lovely spring is. Just hand over the tissue when we start sneezing. At least I'm not allergic to grass. Those who are allergic to both tree pollen and grass pollen? You have my deepest empathy.

The week in review - heh, well, sort of XD

Not sure how much more than a week but yeah. Been good, been fun (work is sucking my brain out and pollen season's started :( ). So good times!

Been finishing the posting of the old star trek fic, so that one's out of my digital drawer. Have been loosely plotting the X-men trek-fusion - which should be fun!

Still keeping up with the twice-a-month posting of short stories (still all x-men, not going to change that).

Heading off to the Lake District in May for a weekend get-away with some lovely people I don't see nearly often enough *g*

On the list for the year I have an entry of 'learn something new' - not sure what that will be - Ruby maybe? Android app development?, knitting/crocheting? The sky's the limit ;)

Just spent the evening watching Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and enjoyed it lots. I know the book but wasn't sure how the movie was going to be.

Tomorrow: off to see Logan. I have been warned to bring kleenex O.o
