Having had the... um, pleasure of following this from both sides (thanks to one of my yahoo groups...), I lay down my arms and worship [livejournal.com profile] destina, because she's right when she's saying this.

How does one take criticism as a writer? Don't ask me, I hate constructive criticism, at least if you catch me before my first cup of coffee *eg*. Nah, seriously, if I ever come across as a bitch when answering feedback, it's not done on purpose... at least very rarely. I mean, any review of a story should be a huge help. I read the review that set off the whining that set off [livejournal.com profile] destina's little 'rant'... and to me it made perfect sense. I mean, there were things in that review that made me stop and think about what I write myself. Suddenly I'm far more aware of keeping the characters IN character. I can't claim to always succeed, but I do try. It's just, that review, well. the facts listed made so damned much sense and if nothing else, it was a learning experience. I wonder how I'd have reacted if it'd been me who'd had a story taken apart like that, honestly, I don't know, but I'd sure as hell take it to heart and try not to make the same 'mistakes' the next time. Writing the characters is often a matter of interpretation, but of course there are certain traits that even the blind can't ignore.

Oh yeah, on the HotJackList

I think they labelled the thread 'OT: Critique of stories help'

Actually, a few of the answers to Wadjet's, um... whining were a lot in line with your 'little' LJ rant.
