Hmm. I won't read WIPs, even after they're finished and posted in one file, because generally the writer had no clue where she was going with the story while she was writing. No plan, no structure, and it almost always shows in the final product. WIPs, to me, are usually about the writer throwing something out there for immediate gratification (ie, feedback). I'm speaking from experience; I wrote WIPs once, a long time ago in another fandom, far, far away. *g*

So I guess my answer would be: write a complete story/vignette/whatever, and then get a beta who can address your weak areas, and then post after you've revised and edited your story. Which wasn't a poll choice, but what the heck. *g*

hey, that's what the comments section is for, anything to add goes here *g*

And yeah, you're right, I don't even read WIPs myself anymore, which is why I wanted to get a feel of what my lj friends thought, but I'd pretty much settled for the 'not posting until it's done' as well -- mostly I guess I did it to keep going when it was a longer story. Difference this time is I know where I'm going, got it all plotted out, so I won't need that push it is to post WIPs to keep going.

But thanks for your thoughts on it, since my own taste in what to do and what not has been changing rapidly lately I was merely wondering.

You've gotta have someplace to post the original fic, just so people can see what it looked like before the final product. ^_^

Yeah, I know, but I always feel bad when the WIP sucks and the final result is that much better *g*
