fic problem...
Did Jim actually ever take up surfing again? I seem to recall that he had a problem with the water (or how light reflected on the water/there was nothing to take him out of a zone) which of course would hinder surfing.
So... anyone? Bueller?

I think his fear of the water wasn't Sentinel-based, but the 'cure' was, he semi-zoned on the ship he was swimming to, and sort of tuned out all the water. I can't remember if a reason for his fear of water was given.

not like it's that important for the story, but I hate loose ends.
thanks ^_^

I gathered the water problem had to do with something aside from swimming, or water in general.
The transcript from "The Rig"
Blair: Jim. What's going on?
Jim: Water.
Blair: What?
Jim: I have never told you this. Hell, I never told anybody this. I've always had this thing about open water. Deep water.
Blair: What? Like a phobia? But you were in special forces. Covert ops. You had to parachute over water and stuff like that.
Jim: Yeah, but that was different. I was always in sight of land. Out here, with all this water, that's all I can see. It, uh, it's just starting to get to me a little bit.
Then later:
Blair: So you must be feeling pretty good. I mean, you did it.
Jim: Did what?
Blair: You conquered your fear of the water.
Jim: Oh, yeah, I guess I did.
Blair: Yeah.
Jim: Now I'm ready for the really big challenge.
Blair: What's that?
Jim: Housebreaking you. We got a couple rules around the house that we're gong to attend to.
That's the actual conversations.
The fear of not being able to see land as a point of reference is a different phobia that that of just being in water. Might be based on the fact that it makes some people very sea sick to not have a visual focus, like shoreline or land in the background.
Surfers don't go that far out(just enough to catch the waves, and you're always in view of the shoreline), and Jim appears to be an excellent swimmer.

You've got a point there.
Thanks!

I don't think he'd have any problems with surfing because when you surf, everything is in constant motion. It's always changing and, while, yes, that might be a problem sense wise, it's not a freaky as unchanging stillness of deep water. And he did say his problem was with deep water where everything is flat and kind of static. When you're near the shore, you definietely don't have that problem.
I dont' remember, though, if he actually did surf. I think he set up a date with the firefighter chick to surf, but I don't think they actually did.

And yeah -- I think you're onto something there -- my main problem is I haven't seen TS in years, and I hate loose ends in fics -- even small ones *g* -- so I figured I'd ask before I went and made a mistake.
