I'm still doing these as character sketches, because lord knows it'll take ages before I really get my own mental image of Ray and Benton -- at least as well as I've had with Jack and Daniel

I find that just writing fics (not even drawing - I can't draw - that's way too hard!), it takes a while to get used to new pairings, seeing them in your mind's eye, hearing how they speak, visualising how they move. Of course, the really hard thing is having to go back to the DVDs or videos 'just to check' LOL!
