Ponderings and other stuff
I'm reading a bit of listmail at the moment and a conversation caught my eye. 'How would Blair or Daniel deal with jealousy?' Someone figured that the reaction would be depression and/or self-doubt.
Um... Okay, it's been ages since I've watched the Sentinel, but I just can't recognize this. Depression? Um, sure, Blair'd be hurt -- wouldn't anyone? At least if there was something solid behind the jealousy. Smiling at a woman should hardly make a bli-ip on radar. Is it just me who wants him to be more guy than he is (because my memory's shot LOL) or what?
And Daniel? Um, maybe the old Daniel. The one from the very early seasons. Back when he was still settling in. Now? I can't see that. I can see him get sarcastic. Hurt, yes, but depressed? It's one of the things I come across in fics and unless the writers is damned good, I won't buy it and in 9 times out of ten, it registers as OOC to me, probably causing me to never finish reading the story. Besides, as I mentioned, the way Daniel is now, he's got a lot more back-bone and I figure he'll open his mouth if he's jealous, because he's been through so much and seen so much that he, more than anyone, should know that life is too short to fuck around with (pardon the language -- writing Fraser makes me accumulate swearing LOL).
It's always dangerous to try analyzing characterization, because let's face it. The characters are often written OOC even on the shows (you know what I mean, occasionally it's like pod-people city!), unless the actors are strong enough to bring their own interpretation of their characters through without getting into trouble with the writers and the directors.
So... what about you guys? How would Blair or Daniel tackle jealousy -- how would they react?
And what about Jack and Jim? I'm just lewd enough to figure that if Jim was jealous, he'd bloody well stake his claim LOL -- either he'd mope around, being more grumpy than normally... or he'd drag Blair into bed and um... follow his instincts *eg*
Jack? Hmmm. Tough. Like Daniel, he does sarcasm VERY well and he has a temper as well -- which is what makes writing J/D so much fun. I mean, I see no spark in the Jack-Sam ship thingy, but with Jack and Daniel? They've had arguments so the sparks flew and maybe that just show that I don't have what it takes to make a relationship work LOL. I mean, without sparks, what the hell is there? Sure, infatuation, but there has to be friction -- not just the physical kind *g*, but personality wise as well. So, Jack. I think he'd confront Daniel, they'd probably argue loud and long, but eventually, isn't that what make up sex is all about? If a couple has no clashes, can you truly claim that they're happy? Show me a couple like that, and I'll call the shrink ::snorts::

And while I've never seen SGA, I think Blair would react proactively. I can't see him moping or getting angry in the grips of jealousy. I think he'd flip the big red seducer button to on and set out to rock his SO's world. Like, "by the time I'm done with you, you won't have the energy to stray." ::nods::

Well, I DID ask Nicci one night to make me a background manip *g*
And yeah, Blair'd probably take it as a challenge. It's not like he wouldn't look at someone else even if he WAS in a relationship with Jim, same goes for Jim I guess. It's okay to look, but there's no doubt as to whom wins -- who gets to take the guy home *g*

Blair: would probably try to hide his hurt because he only wants Jim to be happy. He feels that being near him is the best he can do and he will cope, becuase that's what he's done all his life; cope, adapt, deal.
Jim: He'd get grumpy, sarcastic and eventually he would snap and do something to stake his claim. Like drag Blair off to his lair and ...fade to black
Daniel: I think he would bury himself in his work, and try to fill his head with anything other than his feelings. I see Daniel as having denial down to a fine art. In private, he would analise the shit out of his feelings, but would use avoidance tactics where forced to witness it in public. He would try not to be rude to the other 'person' (depending how well he knows them) becuase he is a fair person, and would also want to see Jack being happy.
Jack: would get sacrastic and snippy. He would activly avoid Daniel at ever opportunity, maybe afraid that the extra stress might make him say something to tip his hand. I dont think that this would happen, as he is much stronger than he gives himself credit for - he's a coper, he would get by, but he would do that by running.
Although having said all that - I often write them differently, depending on how I'm feeling at the time
