Babbling a bit

::grumbles::
I'm trying to download 'Frank's Cock' but so far I've had no success. I've heard from reliable sources that it's an interesting little CKR piece and I really wanted to see it ::pouts::

Well, I guess I could continue writing on the crossover I started the other night. I've had the notes for it stacked next to the computer for a while, and finally came up with an opening for it. It's a bit strange for me to write, because although it's a crossover, it's not, strictly speaking, the usual kind.

I've wanted to cross Due South with Stargate for ages, but so far I've had no ideas for merging the universes. Then I got ANOTHER idea (yeah, the plot bunnies are breeding freakishly fast LOL) and I needed a couple of added characters. Now, for the longest time, I considered creating original characters for that setting, but I kept returning to the fact that I already had those characters.

About two years back I wrote a Stargate AU story and in the meantime Nicci and I have been working on a crossover with that universe and The Sentinel. It's kinda stalled at the moment, but I know I'll get back into it *g* Anyways, I realized that the characters I needed for the Due South story were actually my AU versions of Jack and Daniel. That, and I've missed them *g* -- they were fun to write. So for a while there, I debated with myself, whether or not to use them or create new characters. Point is, I WANT to use them. And I realized just how right it felt when the other night, I sat down and wrote five pages in no time, including a first meeting between Jack and Ray. It felt odd, but... satisfying in a way I haven't felt in ages when writing.

It clicked.

I don't know where the plot bunny came from. It's not my usual style, it's, well, not darker, just... a bit more drama, a little more angst. It might be because I've written two humour senfics and I'm working on a Stargate humourfic as well, that my muses needed a dose of angst. I'm not killing off anyone, but so far the story will touch upon the inabilty to communicate, stubbornness and ordinary stupidity. Hey, it's me -- I'm a sap at heart, I can't bear to give the guys an un-happy ending.

I showed the opening to Nicci the other night and it seemed she liked it *^_^* so I really have no excuse to not continue.

So, do you have to read the AU to get it? No, not really. If you're not familiar with the AU universe I created or for that matter, SG itself, don't worry. Jack and Daniel are supportive cast in the story, and it shouldn't be necessary to know their background beyond what's revealed in the story itself. However, should anyone want to, the story that I wrote back then is called 'Protected' and it features a slightly different Jack and Daniel. I changed their pasts a little and in the end ended up with two men who do not live the lives of their counterparts in the real SG universe, but far more two characters that should be recognizable, yet different (I'm blithering, sorry LOL). I have one warning before you read Protected. I've been told it has too much sex in it. NOT MY FAULT! I had a hell of a time keeping Daniel out of Jack's pants, and trust me, if I hadn't fought with everything I've got, there'd been even more sex LOL - but I'll side with [livejournal.com profile] alyburns, there's no such thing as too much sex.

Besides, I made Daniel wait quite a bit before Jack gave into his advances, so in the end I kinda owed the guy LOL -- Apart from that, I was annoying the crap out of [livejournal.com profile] swtalmnd because we were discussing safe-sex issues in fanfic-- which goes a long way to explain some of the oddness in the story LOL

There is no such thing as too much sex, especially between Protected!Jack and Protected!Daniel. ::drools::

In this case it pays to listen to the muses, pushy little shits that they are anyway.

The story sounds interesting; I'll look forward to reading it.

In the mean time, in case you haven't managed to successfully download Frank's Cock yet, I've just started a YSI upload for you. It's a *huge* file (almost 300M) that contains not only Frank's Cock but also Letters From Home, another short film by the same filmmaker; CKR's segment is the last one in LFH, so don't give up on it too early. The quality is extremely poor, but I think both shorts are still very much worth watching. I should have a YSI link for you within two hours or less.
