Who's in the Audience?
I was going over the links on my website today. Especially the external ones.
I used to link to Kirby Crow's article 'Who do we write for?' Well, it's long gone, it seems. Too bad. It was both amusing to read and right to the point. So I kinda need something to link to and then realized. Well, I know whom I write for. I figure, I'll put my two cents in here and link to the post. And I'm sure the rest of you guys out there will share your humble opinions as well ^_~
So, who do we write for?
Me, myself and... um. Heh. No, seriously. I think most of us really do write for ourselves and for our closest online friends. Slash is written mostly by women, mostly for women, mostly read by women. No, don't give me the exceptions. I know they're there. I'm just going for the overall rule.
Slash isn't gay porn for gays. First of all, a lot of slash focuses on the more emotional side of the characters, of the relationships and whatever can get in the way of said relationship. Sure, it can get a little too sugary some times, but just as there is some great slash out there, there's some ...less good stories as well.
Then there's the sex *g*
No, I can only do research and guesstimate, use my imagination. I don't know what it feels like to have sex as a guy. I don't know what it feels like to have the prostate stimulated. Envious? No, not really. Two words: Multiple. Orgasms. Another thing that slashers should be careful to not give their characters if we're talking m/m. Unless they're randy teenagers of course. Or high on viagra XD
Okay, I probably am a bit envious of the equipment sometimes. It's easier to jerk off if you're a guy... *sniggers*
Back on topic. Sorry. I can say when I write slash, the more explicit kind, at least, I sometimes ask fellow slashers for prompts/kinks etc. It's fun hitting buttons. When I write the more emotionally heavy stuff, I tend to look for something that hits my own heartstrings a little more than just sex. That said, I'm no prude. I enjoy a good sex scene if it fits into a story.
It's not like I'm trying to write for a gay magazine, you know. I'm not exactly hiding who my main audience is. All you have to do is hit the friends-list of this journal and skim the entries. I've got about 1 guy per 100 girls *g*
I could get into why I write m/m slash, but that's a completely different can o' worms *g*
Feel free to rant and rave in the comments below *g* -- Heck, I encourage it ^_^

Well, I'll come on over and have a look when I get home from work. Not that I mind the kerfluffles, but I do appreciate your input. And thank you for liking my ramble LOL -- Seriously, I miss Kirby Crow's old article on whom we write for. It was sarcastic, annoyed and right to the point *g*
