Last Potter Book and more

Aye, finished the last potter book a little hour ago, so then... um. No, no spoilers, don't worry. Only thing I can say is I was a bit surprised by the ending, yet not really, but alas, the book was better than I expected.

On the upside, it seems, with me buying Going Postal, I'm now finally back to reading Pratchett. I haven't done that for a few years. It's a bit like coming home...

I have my copy in my hot little hands, I'm just waiting to finish the novel I'm currently reading before starting... I'm looking forward to reading it :)

Heh, I picked mine up at 1AM last night and read till 4AM this morning. Not because I had to, but well, you know... I was awake LOL

It's actually a pretty decent book, so I hope you'll enjoy it.

I sometimes think that Going Postal is my favorite non-witch, non-Vimes book. It's reminds me of the things I like in the movie "The Postman" in a way that amuses me greatly. And Mr. Pump ... is very charismatic in a button-down golem way.

I'm re-reading Thud right now because I was reading The Tough Guide to Fantasyland by Diana Wynne Jones. Which has nothing to do with Thud at all but the humour reminded me of Vimes reading the book to Young Sam in the cavern.

The Tough Guide to Fantasyland, btw and if you're interested, is Diana Wynne Jones's capsulation of every Fantasyland cliche as a guide book issued by "the Management" to Tourists from our world. I think she wrote it/ used it for The Dark Lord of Derkholm, which I just finished. Unfortunately, I don't have the sequel The Year of the Griffin.

And my beloved is down in the hammock on the porch reading The Book. I doubt I shall see much of him before Monday night (he has to go to work, poor love).

I think my favorite non-series Discworld book is Small Gods. I recall it being really good. I bought Thud! as well as the seventh Dresden book, so I have plenty for the time being. I used to read Pratchett as soon as they came out but for a while there, I just stopped reading all together and read mostly fanfic online.

I think reading real books won't exactly hurt my writing XD

Small Gods and "Dogma" are both very good treatises on the subject of religion and faith. Too many people get them confused - especially big-hat religions. ("Dogma" has too much gratuitous vulgar language for me to be entirely comfortable with it, but even so ... ).

But when it comes to pure, admiring enjoyment, Going Postal has it beat hands down.

What's your take on Pyramids?

Hmmm pyramids. I don't recall all too much about it since it's probably been a good 7-10 years since I read it Heh.

But what I do remember about it was good. I have trouble picking my favorite book all in all, though. I liked 5th elephant very much, for the darkness in it, for the darker side of Carrot as well. I love Hogfather for the crazyness and adore Reaperman.

Hogfather is a seasonal favorite, and definitely the Susan book I like best.

Nightwatch is the book I like least. It feels ... off ... somehow. But I think he recovers his stride with Monstrous Regiment.

That's a lie, btw. Eric is the book I like the least, so much do I dislike it, that I even wipe it from my memory.

Hi Xim, how about emailing me and telling me what the end was. I'm not reading the book, just wondered about it. :)
