Doctor Who Easter Special - Planet of the Dead
Yeah, had that one this morning with a cup of coffee and yoghurt with maple syrup *g*
It was... surprisingly a lot better than I expected.
Upside:
Not everyone died
Downside:
for such a short ep, it's hard to really get a feel for the supportive characters.
Still, that's about it.
I loved the nutty professor Malcolm, because he was such a fanboy! Hugging the Doctor and proclaiming his undying love XD -- he's the fanboy in all of us. The guy's a genius and still, he throws himself at the Doctor with complete and utter abandon. Which I love, because I know the Doctor loves it but also is slightly embarrassed by it XD
Adored the UNIT marched in. And how bad has fandom hit you when you see a red UNIT cap and instantly start grinning, knowing how lovely Ianto would look in that thing *g*.
Christina... heh. I liked her. Liked the Tomb Raider tributes, the outfit *grins lewdly*, laughed at the points of her plan, and how the Doctor had to take over to when it became clear that while she's good at planning and executing said plans, she doesn't know what drives other people. She knows her own motivations, but other people? No.
Did I like it? Oh yeah. One hell of a romp and I adored the cheesiness of making the bus fly, was sad that the last two of the aliens from the crashed ship were killed. Loved that the Doctor felt he couldn't be outdone by a human even if he was impressed that Christina was ready for almost any emergency.
Am glad that they didn't make her a recurring companion by letting her go with the Doctor. He'll eventually get over it, the losses he's had, but Christina wouldn't have been good for him. They were too similar and they'd probably have ended up in so much trouble they wouldn't have gotten out of it again. I mean, Donna was good for him, because she kept him levelheaded, kept those fancy converse planted on the ground most of the time. She made sure he never forgot the little things that might be important. Christina? They would have been marvelous together, but also a danger to each other -- and I could easily see her getting into trouble and losing her life and that would have been the final straw for the Doctor, if he were to get attached to another companion and then to lose her in a possibly gruesome way. It's bad enough what he had to do to Donna, but at least she's alive, if you can call the life she leads a good life. If he were to lose someone new to recklessness, then I don't think he'd get over it.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they'll be handling his end and the beginning of the 11th Doctor's time and whether he'll be as marked by 10's loss or something will happen beforehand that might change his mind.
I know Donna would have wanted him to travel with at least one companion at his side. She would, if she could remember, be worried about him being on his own.
So, two questions:
1. When's the next Doctor Who - The Waters of Mars due? Anyone know?
2. When the hell's TW gonna start again!

I'm still seeing June/July for the release of Torchwood.
It was such a fun romp for the doctor, even if a bit hard to believe some of the plot holes.

And the thoughts on Christina struck me while I was writing up the review. I realized that she wouldn't be good for him, even if it was good seeing him smile again ^_^
