Firefly Pimpage - Derrial Book
It tickles me, you know. I got an issue of Spread Magazine today -- it's about the sex industry -- pretty interesting. And why, you might ask, did I get an issue? Well, last year someone from the magazine asked if they could use one of my old sketches, and I agreed. And the lovely lady sent me the issue *g* -- well, whaddya know? I'm in print LOL
AND ... now for the last character pimpage of Firefly, I give you:
"The special hell"
Short Backstory:
A holy man with a strange and secret past. Book came aboard Serenity as a mere passenger, not really looking for a specific destination, but much more looking for a different ride. Which he got.
He's not what he seems. There are many things that speak for his past having to do with the Alliance. He knows a lot about how things work within the Alliance and at one time he is in need of medical care, which is given to him without any questions after he shows the Feds his identification.
The WHY:
It took time for me to like him, but after a while, he kinda grows on you. The feeling I had that it was too flat came from never really knowing Book's backstory. It's also what's made me like him so much now. I think it could have been so very interesting to know more about him in the long run. Just being fed bits and pieces keeps it more interesting than getting a full background story on a character in one go.
So here is this man, a man of faith, a man of God and yet he knows his way around a Firefly class ship, he knows how to use a gun and he can hit what he aims at. Better than just well.

"A government is a body of people, usually notably ungoverned."

Zoë: "Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?"
Book: "Quite specific. It is, however, a mite fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps."

Mal: "Shouldn't you be off bringing religiosity to the fuzzy-wuzzies
or some such?"
Book: "I think I've got heathens 'aplenty right here."
[The Train Job]
Book: "I'd forgotten, you're moonlighting as a criminal mastermind now. Got your next heist all lined up?"
Simon: "No... but I'm thinking about growing a big black mustache. I'm a traditionalist."

Mal: "What -- I am not... preacher, you got a smutty mind!"

He walks around the corner, then pokes his head around it:
"The special hell."

River seen him like this and runs away screaming. I don't know, I kinda like the Einstein look LOL
[Jaynestown]
River: (Out of sight) "They say the snow on the roof was too heavy. They say the ceiling will cave in. His brains are in terrible danger."
Book: "River? Why don't you come out?"
River: "No! I can't. Too much hair."
[Jaynestown]
Jayne's supposed to spot Book on the weights, but he sees Inara's female client leaving and he kinda forgets about it. Poor Book.

Jayne: "I got post?"
Book: "Might we all want to step back a few paces before he opens that?"
Jayne: "Haw haw. It's from my mother."
