Thank you to everyone ^_^

Thanks to everyone who chimed in with the question of the line:

'There's no place like home'

My collegue was doing something for her class in marketing where they were supposed to find an ad that just didn't do what it was supposed to. Something that fell flat. She had an ad/poster thing for the National Geographic channel. It was something about a series on natural disasters. It said:

Volcanos
Tsunamis
Tornados

There's no place like home.

I think the problem was the line had been translated into Danish -- the only thing that made me go Oh! was the ruby slippers above the text. It just doesn't ring the same kind of bell in my language LOL. It didn't really work until I realized it was most probably an ad translated from English... and then the bells rang like you wouldn't believe it XD

So, thank you to everyone who helped out. Now, the rest of you? Did everyone else, even the non-American folks, go 'Wizard of Oz' when they saw the 'There's no place like home' line? Feel free to comment below and let me know where you're from. ^_^ Now I'm just plain curious LOL

There's no place like home - Wizard of Oz, instantly. And I'm European (born Switzerland, mostly brought up in England).

Yes, but only because of online fannish exposure (and mainly, I think, thanks to the numerous allusions to Oz in Stargate SG-1 ;) ).

Heh, that was why I thought it might be a 'contaminated' end result. I mean, I realized that I'd be getting a lot of answers from Stargate fans and through that, it would be easy to get the eventual reply of 'Wizard do Oz'. I guess, though, in the end, the result is the same LOL

That, I guess, are one of the joys of pop-culture references (if one can call it that) -- you don't even have to have SEEN/experienced what it's all about, it's just ...common knowledge
