Question
I tried to explain to a friend today why I prefer writing homoerotica.
I came up short. How the heck should I explain it? I mean, I do have vague ideas why. I like the m/m dynamics and the challenge of writing guys. Also, being a tom-boy, I like doing boy things -- you know, I used climb trees, run around doing stupid shit *g* - generally very physically active things.
I also like the mental image of two guys together. Nothing wrong in that.
So, everyone. Why do you read/write homoerotica? I'm just curious, as to how you'd answer explain it to someone who doesn't normally read that genre.

I (generally) prefer situations when there is a *choice*

I like the idea of being able to assume the role of a man when it comes to reading sex scenes. I guess that I like to imagine what having sex is like from the male pov. If I were to read het, then putting myself into the male role would mean I have to imagine having sex with a woman. As I'm not into women, then reading gay sex is just the ticket. And if I happen to find BOTH of the guys attractive, then I can pop in and out of their heads at will without the squick factor.
I have also always loved shows whith two strong male leads that care for each other. It doesnt HAVE to be about the sex, it can be about the feelings and the fact that these guys would die for each other is the ultimalte expression of love to me.
And finally - two guys fucking = HOT!!!!

Male bonding. Is that what you're thinking about? And yes, I don't have to have the sexual aspect in there either. I enjoy a good piece of bonding as well.
And of course, if the guys are good looking too, it's no trouble imagining the more physical side of a relationship

I agree with the whole liking the look of two guys together. I figure I should probably write something that I'd enjoy seeing. Plus, with het couples there's a man and a woman, right? Well, if I wanted to see (even mentally) a naked woman, I could look in the mirror. So why waste 50% of the equation on something that doesn't hold my interest? So I take out the chick and add in another man. Then it's 100% enjoyable for my senses!
Secondly, everytime I write a female character (a major one, anyway) she ends up as the damsel in distress or a mega bitch. Unless she's the villian, I don't like doing that to a female. Maybe it's the latent feminist in me? Who knows.

*laughs at the damsel in distress image*
Ah yes, I see how that would become a problem. It's a thing we have to be careful about when writing female characters, unless it's part of the character, of course.

I can't really answer them. I like the idea of two men together. I think it makes a pretty image in my mind. Men are less complicated for me to understand. (please, don't think I'm not a feminist by any means)
I kind of like how men can crash into each other too. They have lots of angles and less soft curves. They get angry and apologize less.
I think it might just possibly be because they are men.

I imagine the reason why straight women get involved in the slash fandom is pretty much the same reason that straight men watch lesbian porn.
One guy is good... but two? Even better! ;P

I just hope you'll let us know if we get it way too wrong LOL. I think me being bi, I can do both het and slash, but slash just gives me other options to work with. There's always the risk that just because one man is interested in another, it might not be reciprocal.

But that's just me and TMI *g*

I think we can all say that on some level we're shallow like that.
Hey, nothing wrong with some introspection in the guise of pop psyche, heh. And I get what you mean. Besides, it's that easier to write established characters together and sharing it than writing yourself into a story. Now wouldn't that give a whole new meaning mary-sue fic? *g*
