Danish Invasion of Scotland, day 9

Up up up north where what you think is fog turns out to be a low cloud cover...

We got up to leave around 7AM because we had a bit of a trip ahead. We were going to go up to Glen Coe so the Clan could show off the Highlands to a Dane who's used to the Flatlands.

So yeah, we took a wrong turn and the trip was a wee bit longer than planned, but still, it wasn't all that bad. The first half or more of the day we hardly saw any blue patches in the skies. The cloud cover was thick and hanging low. Sure, it would have been nice for a clear view of the mountains but I'd never expected how beautiful it would be with the clouds hanging down at road level in some places.

So, yeah, we detoured halfway to Inverness and went down through Fort William, but we did make it to Glen Coe and it was absolutely beautiful. We stopped in at the Visitors Center and went to the viewing platform.

From there we went through Glen Coe and I think some hiker must've gotten lost, because we saw both the rescue helicopter as well as military personnel and an ambulance.

Further down we came through Rannoch Moor and that is one creepy part of the country, even in sunlight.

Rannoch Moor - even in patchy sunlight it's eerie to look at.

Going south, we had a pitstop where the Road split. We could either carry on and drive toward Perth and head down to Dunfermline from there or detour toward Glasgow to go down alongside Loch Lomond. Which we did.

Loch Lomond

The light was odd down here. Mostly due to the fact that to one side heavy, dark clouds were looming and to the other side the sun was trying to burn us off the planet.

Loch Lomond

Fantastic light, though. We stopped in to get a few pictures, then drove on until we got to the Loch cruises where there was a much better overview of the some of the Loch.

Loch Lomond straight ahead

Becca, Nicci and I walked around along paths here and there, getting a good look around.

And of course it started raining, but eventually, after we left, we also left the rainy weather behind.

On the way home we went past Stirling Castle and I managed to snap a few shots out the window.
